Our training classes are a combination of theoretical knowledge of NDT methods and their practical applications. They are conducted in an interactive environment and includes extensive practical training within various actual-sized practice specimens.
Our NDT programme is designed to meet global training requirement standards such as ASNT SNT-TC-1A, CP189, BINDT, ISO9712 and EN473. Our training staff are certified to ASNT and PCN Level III, and have a wide range of industry experience to complement their qualifications.

K2's NDT training classes for Level I and Level II:
Visual Inspection Testing (VT)

Most NDT inspections start with a Visual Inspection. Performed using the human eye, it is the most common and readily available inspection. Often, the inspector is trained to look for certain clues that might indicate defects or flaws.
Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)

Liquid Penetrant Testing, which is also known as dye penetrant testing (DPI) or liquid penetrant inspection (LPI), is one of the most cost effective NDT methods for testing non-ferrous material.
It locates surface defects in non-porous material when you apply a fluorescent or non-fluorescent dye penetrant to the surface. This method can detect cracks, fatigue cracks, forging and casting defects
Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

This common NDT method is capable of detecting surface and sub-surface defects in ferrous materials.
It involves the induction of a magnetic field to or around the test specimen. If the material has a surface or near-surface flaw, it will create a magnetic flux which will attract small magnetic particles to the flaw area, making it detectable.
Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

Ultrasonic Testing takes place when a short ultrasonic pulse-wave is sent into a material to detect internal flaws or identify different types of material. This method is also commonly used to determine the thickness of material. UT testing can be used on alloys, steel, concrete, wood and composites.
Radiographic Testing (RT)

This NDT inspection method uses electromagnetic radiation wavelengths to penetrate various materials to detect flaws. This x-ray detection can be used on lead and steel to detect external and internal flaws, but cannot be used on plastic.
Radiation safety is very important when using this testing method due to possible exposure to strong gamma sources in remote sites.
Eddy Current Testing (ET)

Eddy Current Testing uses electromagnet induction in conductive materials to detect flaws. This method can detect very small flaws in or near the surface of the material. Its application is limited to a conductive material where the surface is accessible.
Alternating Current Field Measurement Testing (ACFM)

Alternating Current Field Measurement Testing (ACFM) is an electromagnetic technique for detecting and sizing surface breaking defects in metals. ACFM is particularly suited for inspecting painted and/or welded structures underwater and in suspected fatigue crack locations.

Module 1:
Height Safety Equipment Appreciation And Inspection
This module is designed to provide:
- An outline of legislation relating to work at height.
- A guide to the options on how to comply.
- A background on how equipment can be utilised to achieve this.
- Details behind the equipment standards to ensure usage within the intended purpose.
- Criteria for issue, ID marking, inspection, record keeping, maintenance, storage and withdrawal from service.

- Health and Safety at Work Act (UK).
- Workplace Safety and Health Act (Singapore).
- Personal protective equipment regulations.
- CE Marking.
- EN Standards.
- Hazard analysis and risk assessment.

- Work restraint.
- Work position.
- Fall arrest.
- Certificates of conformity and traceability.
- Inspection and record keeping procedures.
- Limitations of use and when to retire from service.
- Strengths and characteristics of equipment.
- Importance of rescue provision.
Practical
- Identification of equipment using samples.
- The correct fitting of harnesses.
- Identification of damaged equipment using samples.
- Identification of different styles of rescue equipment using samples.

Module 2:
Fall Arrest
This module can only be carried out in conjunction with
Module 1 (Height Safety Equipment Appreciation And Inspection). It is designed to provide:
- A practical enhancement to Module 1 to give candidates the opportunity to apply the knowledge to typical locations.
Ideally, the applications will be tailored to those typically encountered by candidates in their work situation. They will also include common applications to provide a good depth of knowledge.
Course Syllabus
Theory
There are no additional theory elements to those covered in Module 1.
Practical
In addition to the practical elements of Module 1, the following topics will be covered:
- Correct fitting and adjustment of fall arrest harnesses by all candidates.
- Ladder ascent and descent using inertia blocks.
- Ladder ascent and descent using in-situ permanent systems.
- Ladder ascent and descent using temporary systems.
- The use of fall arrest lanyards.
- The use of horizontal safety lines.
- The use of horizontal trans-fastener type systems.
Where appropriate, additional topics specific to the client will also be covered. And if any of the topics are not required by the client, participants will only be given an overview of them, but will not be required to practice them individually.

Module 3:
Working At Height
This module can only be carried out in conjunction with
Module 1 (Height Safety Equipment Appreciation And Inspection). It is designed to provide:
- A practical enhancement to Module 1 to allow candidates to safely access towers and masts utilising in-situ access systems.
- Practical knowledge of a "Pre-Rigged" rescue being carried out.
Course Syllabus
Theory
In addition to the theory elements of Module 1, the following topics will be emphasised:
- The use of work positioning in conjunction with fall arrest equipment.
- The use of double lanyards for safety whilst travelling.
Practical
In addition to the practical elements of Module 1, the following topics will also be covered:
- Correct fitting and adjustment of fall arrest harnesses by all candidates.
- Ladder ascent and descent using inertia blocks.
- Ladder ascent and descent using in-situ permanent systems.
- Ladder ascent and descent using temporary systems.
- The use of horizontal trans-fastener type systems.
- The use of double fall arrest lanyards.
- The use of work positioning belts.
- A practical demonstration of a "Pre-Rigged" rescue.

Module 4:
Advanced Working At Height
This module can only be carried out in conjunction with
Module 1 (Height Safety Equipment Appreciation And Inspection) and
Module 3 (Working At Height).
It is designed to provide:
- A practical and theoretical enhancement to Modules 1 and 3 to let candidates move more independently around towers or masts with a more advanced knowledge of rescue.
- The skills and knowledge to be fully conversant with a descent rescue system.
Course Syllabus
Theory
In addition to the theory elements of Modules 1 and 3, the following topics will be emphasised:
- The effect of fall factors in an industrial location.
- The need for careful assessment of the rescue implications prior to commencing the work task.
Practical
In addition to the practical elements of Modules 1 and 3, the following topics will also be covered:
- The use of a self-locking descender to abseil.
- The use of a rescue kit containing a self-locking descender to access a casualty and evacuate them down to safety.
- Tower climbing.

Module 5:
Rescue From Towers, Masts And Structures
This module can only be carried out in conjunction with
Module 1 (Height Safety Equipment Appreciation And Inspection). It is designed to provide:
- A practical enhancement to Module 1 to let candidates carry out a rescue using a pre-selected rescue kit. The kit will be chosen specifically to suit the client's situation.
- Knowledge of alternative types of rescue equipment.
Course Syllabus
Theory
In addition to the theory elements of Module 1, the following topics will be covered:
- The importance of personal safety whilst carrying out a rescue.
- The problems associated with suspension trauma.
- The importance of casualty management.
Practical
On top of the practical elements of Module 1, the following topics will also be covered:
- Option A:
- The use of a self-locking descender to abseil.
- The use of a rescue kit containing a self-locking descender to access a casualty and evacuate them down to safety.
- Correct fitting and adjustment of fall arrest harnesses by all candidates.
- The use of fall arrest lanyards.
- The use of double fall arrest lanyards.
- Option B:
- The use of a rescue kit with raising and lowering capability.
- Raising a casualty back to safety.
- Lowering a casualty down to safety.
- Correct fitting and adjustment of fall arrest harnesses by all candidates.
- The use of fall arrest lanyards.
- The use of double fall arrest lanyards.

Module 6:
Rooftop Safety/Work Restraint
This module can only be carried out in conjunction with
Module 1 (Height Safety Equipment Appreciation And Inspection). It is designed to provide:
- A practical enhancement to Module 1 to allow candidates to work safely in the vicinity of unprotected edges, on steep ground or slightly angled rooftops.
- The ability to use basic fall arrest equipment.
Course Prerequisite
Successful completion of Module 1 and Module 2 (Fall arrest).
Course Syllabus
Theory
- What constitutes an unprotected edge.
- What constitutes steep ground and when do work position techniques become necessary.
- The importance of avoidance of hazards where possible.
- Correct risk assessment when setting up work restraint systems.
- The limitations of using retractable lanyards in restraint.
Practical
In addition to the practical elements of Module 1, the following topics will be covered:
- Correct fitting and adjustment of fall arrest harnesses by all delegates.
- Ladder ascent and descent using inertia blocks.
- Ladder ascent and descent using in-situ permanent systems.
- Ladder ascent and descent using temporary systems.
- The use of fall arrest lanyards.
- The use of horizontal trans-fastener type systems.
- The setting up of adjustable restraint systems.
- The use of horizontal safety lines as a barrier (i.e. quarry barriers).
- The use of horizontal safety lines as a part of a restraint system.
Where appropriate, additional topics specific to the client will also be covered.
